ANDREAS GERGEN – DIRECTOR

From 2011 until 2017 he was Opera Director of the Landestheater Salzburg in Austria.
His most important productions as a director include I AM FROM AUSTRIA, DON CAMILLO & PEPPONE and THE VISIT for the Vereinigte Bühnen Wien (VBW), CARMEN at the Felsenreitschule Salzburg, and the operetta VICTORIA UND HER HUSSAR for the Seefestspiele Mörbisch.

To date, he has directed over 80 operas, operettas, musicals and plays, including THE MAGIC FLUTE (Staatstheater Saarbrücken), THE COUNT OF MONTE CHRISTO (original production, Theater St.Gallen), JEKYLL & HYDE, WEST SIDE STORY (Theater Magdeburg), DIE FLEDERMAUS, THE SOUND OF MUSIC, FIDELIO, LA BOHÈME, MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING (Salzburg Landestheater), THE VISIT, (original production, Thunerseespiele), HAIRSPRAY (Munich, Merzig, Tecklenburg), the original German production of THE ADDAMS FAMILY – THE MUSICAL (Musik und Theater Saar). He staged LUTHER – PROJEKT DER 1000 STIMMEN by Michael Kunze and Dieter Falk at the Westfalenhalle in Dortmund to mark the 500th anniversary of Luther’s Reformation, and broadcasted by the ZDF TV channel on Reformation Day. He also directed the VBW’s well-received semi-staged concert performances of THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA and LOVE NEVER DIES.

He was both Managing Director and Artistic Director of the Berlin Schlossparktheater, where his productions included the European premiere of the Broadway hit URINETOWN – THE MUSICAL, the operetta WIE EINST IM MAI by Walter Kollo and DIE DREI VON DER TANKSTELLE by Werner Richard Heymann.

He subsequently became Artistic Project Manager of Stage Entertainment in Hamburg, where he helped to develop the musicals DER SCHUH DES MANITU and ICH WAR NOCH NIEMALS IN NEW YORK, among other projects.
